Southampton - East Cowes (Red Funnel) |
|
East Cowes is located on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight, on the eastern bank of the River Medina. On the opposite side of the river is the town of Cowes. Cowes is split by the river into East Cowes and West Cowes and these two are connected by a chain ferry system known as the Cowes Floating Bridge which is operated by the Isle of Wight Council.
East Cowes houses two of the former residences of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; Osborne House and Norris Castle. Prince Albert had a large influence on the architecture in the area, especially that of St. Mildred's Church in Whippingham.

This was our first trip taking the dog i was not looking forward to it, but I didn't need to worry, we arrived early and was asked if we would like to get earlier ferry, it was all very organised getting on and off couldn't of been easier, the lounge for people with dogs was very nice with excellent coffee and easy access to outside deck. Planning to go again in March .
