East Cowes is located on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight, on the eastern bank of the River Medina. On the opposite side of the river is the town of Cowes. Cowes is split by the river into East Cowes and West Cowes and these two are connected by a chain ferry system known as the Cowes Floating Bridge which is operated by the Isle of Wight Council.
East Cowes houses two of the former residences of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; Osborne House and Norris Castle. Prince Albert had a large influence on the architecture in the area, especially that of St. Mildred's Church in Whippingham. |
