Fastnet Line is a new operator, created in April 2009 to provide a passenger and freight service between Cork in Ireland and Swansea in Wales, a route that was served by Swansea Cork Ferries until 2006. Fastnet was established as a co-operative of small local investors following a long public campaign to replace the lost service, which has led to it being dubbed `The People's Ferry'. The new service will cut out potentially hundreds of miles of driving in Wales and Ireland, with Swansea the most convenient port for ferries to southern Ireland for the south of the UK.
The Fastnet Line route launched in March 2010, and is served by the m/v Julia, which will provide comfortable overnight journeys. Onboard will be 7 restaurants and bars offering an excellent choice of cuisine and drinks, a cinema, children's facilities and 300 cabins catering for the 1,860 passengers. |
