Despite its status as one of the main ports for sailings to Ireland and the Isle of Man Heysham has managed to remain a small, quaint and picturesque village. If you have had a long drive and you have a while before your ferry departs, Heysham provides an ideal opportunity for a relaxing stroll.
Places of interest in Heysham
St Peters church - St Peter's church in Heysham, was built to replace the 6th Century chapel which is on the hillside above it after the Vikings raided Heysham in around 900 AD. This original chapel was dedicated to St Patrick who was reported to have landed near Heysham while fleeing the Romans. St Peter's itself is over a thousand years old although there have been many additions to the building over the years.
