Melilla is one of two autonomous Spanish cities on the Moroccan coast. The city is located on the eastern side of the Cabo Tres Forcas (French: Cap des Trois Fourches), a rocky peninsula that extends approximately 25 miles (40 km) into the Mediterranean Sea. The modern quarter of the city spreads south and west on the mainland, while the old walled city is situated between the port and the new quarter.

Textiles, shoemaking, and local metallurgical manufactures are Melilla's main industries. Services, including a growing tourism industry, contribute significantly to the economy.

The Melilla ferry port is the ideal base to discover Morocco. Melilla ferry port offers duty free shopping and ease of access to the town centre. Melilla is a Spanish exclave in North Africa, situated on the northernmost tip of Maghreb, right next to Moroccan border. Melilla main tourist attractions are its old quarter and medieval fortress out at sea.

Mellila is also a cosmopolitan city boasting a wide variety of languages and religions. Mellila acts is a centre for sports fishing, shopping (with some tax free shopping) and watersports activities. An attractive Government Parador in the Old Quarter has exceptional views of Mellila's port and its centre is a fine place to relax.
