Situated in the north of the Aegean Sea, Mytilene is the capital city of the island of Lesbos. This city is the main area for Ouzo production in the whole of Greece, and you can enjoy some of the traditional liquor in one of the many tavernas by the beautiful waterfront which you see as you enter the island by ferry.

Mytilene is also a treat for archaeology lovers; many sites are dotted around the whole island, and there are dozens of mosaics and historical artefacts in the town's Archaeological Museum. The fortress that dominates the town is also a must-see to experience Greece during the Ottoman Empire era.
