About Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is situated on the south side of Lanzarote and become the third largest tourist area on the island. It is backed by volcanic mountains on the southwest tip of Lanzarote. Awarded on various occasions for its beauty, this peaceful and pleasant spot is the ideal place for the whole family to relax in. It's one of the island's biggest resorts but it's still quietly sophisticated. You can find all kinds of restaurants, shops and bars along the Playa Blanca boardwalk, and the streets running parallel to it, at the edge of the old town. Another area that's a must to visit is the recreational port, replete with newly constructed facilities of high quality. It also boasts a new shopping centre.The smart marina covers cocktails, upscale dining and boutiques, while the promenade is lined with excellent seafood places. Meanwhile, livelier karaoke and disco bars can be found in the shopping centres. And on top of this, there are 3 different beaches to choose from.

From Playa Blanca you can take a ferry across to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura, which takes 25 to 35 minutes, depending on which service you choose. The enormous beaches at Corralejo with their white sand dunes and crystalline waters make this trip worth the effort.

A bit of history about Playa Blanca

In 1953 two towns: Yaiza and Femés joined into one, taken on the name of municipality of Yaiza.

On these dates a fishing boom occurs, as well as the creation of the Salt Farm of Janubio and Berrugo, which brought forth job opportunities for locals. Gradually small houses for the seafaring families were brought up in the area. That was how a fishing village was consolidated with white sandy streets and small boats floating in the shore. This is the town that takes the name of Playa Blanca. In 1970 appeared the first English tourists leading to a new way of living: tourism

Playa Blanca port

Playa Blanca is situated on the southern tip of the island is being developed as the up market resort of the island, with villas on large plots of land and five star hotels. There is a fabulous promenade stretching along the coastline connecting Marina Rubicon right down to the lighthouse. The old traditional port of Playa Blanca has ferries that run to the island of Fuerteventura several times a day, you can choose from the high speed cat or traditional car ferry, Corralejo is walk able from the port so this makes a great day out.

Fred Olsen ferries link Playa Blanca with Corralejo on Fuerteventura. There are four to five ferries daily. Free Fred Olsen buses leave Puerto del Carmen (9am and 5pm) to connect with the 10am and 6pm ferry departures. A free service also meets the 9am and 5pm ferries from Corralejo. The morning run continues to Lanzarote's airport.
