Salerno

Salerno is a city located on the Tyrrhenian Sea and is home to the oldest university in Europe; the Schola Medica Salernitana, built in the early Middle Ages. Salerno ferry port is located in the western outskirts of the city and is the entrance for ferries to Salerno for those who want to enjoy the beautiful Amalfi coast. There are bus links and taxi services that go to the centre of the city.

There is plenty to see and do around this lively Italian port. Some of the most amazing beaches in the Amalfi region are in or nearby the town, and there are many delicious restaurants, street stalls and cafes that sell superb Italian cuisine such as traditional Napoletana pizzas, pastas and gnocchi, as well as hundreds of types of coffees and liquors. There is also a vast range of beautiful Baroque and Provincial buildings in the city, including the Duomo of Salerno, and the historical downtown Salerno is frequently quoted as one of the best maintained towns in the whole of the Mediterranean. After some shopping down the Via dei Mercanti, perhaps you could relax in the fantastic Villa Communale park.

Port of Salerno

The port area in Salerno is not very attractive, but once you get onto the promenade things are getting much better. There is a historical Old Town near by, which preserved historical sights, full of tiny little passageways and hidden corners. There are some cafes, where you can find something to eat while waiting for the ferry crossing.

    Absolutely gorgeous!
    • Absolutely gorgeous! Big comfortable clean cabin. Good restaurant for dinner that opens 1 hour and 15 min before departure.
