Toremar (Toscana Regionale Marittima) was formed in 1976 to provide reliable links between the Italian coast of Tuscany and the largest group of islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the Tuscan Archipelago, comprising of Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Gorgona and Pianosa. Toremar's fleet of 8 ferries provides many sailings a week. In fact, last year, Toremar carried about 1,900,000 passengers, representing more than 8,500 individual sailings. Its boats were selected to provide a fast, comfortable, modern service from the mainland, allowing customers to travel in style all year round, even if weather conditions are less than favourable.
A particular attraction for customers with young children is the provision of playgrounds for children onboard. Toremar's ferries also seek to be accessible to all, providing air conditioning and escalators for passengers with reduced mobility, with most also offering comfortable bars and a shopping arcade.
