Over the past few years, Irish Ferries have invested 450 million euro in a new fleet, including Ulysses, the largest car ferry on the Irish Sea and the fast ferry, Johnathan Swift.
Irish Ferries Freight - Driver Information:
Irish Ferries currently operate 4 ferries on 4 routes between the Republic of Ireland, the UK and France.
Between Holyhead and Dublin, freight passengers can choose between Ulysses, the coventional ferry, with a crossing time of 3hrs 15mins. The fast ferry, Jonathan Swift, suitable for smaller freight vehicles only, (up to 10m and 10 tonnes), offers a quicker crossing time of 1hr 50 mins
The service from Pembroke to Rosslare takes 4 hours on the conventional ferry, Isle of Ishmore.
Irish ferries also operate 2 routes between Ireland and France, avoiding tolls, fuel costs, and road congestion. Services between Rosslare and Cherbourg, and Rosslare and Roscoff are operated by Oscar Wilde, the sailing time is approximately 18 hours.
Whicever route taken, freight driver facilities on board are of a very high standard, including comfortable cabin accommodation, designated freight driver lounges, restuarant facilities, a cinema and of course shopping!
Travelling with a van?
With Irish Ferries, all private use vans exceeding 6.0m in length or 2.6m high must be booked as freight. If commercial goods are being carried you must book as freight, regardless of the length.
