Santorini Information
Santorini's ferry port is situated to the east of the island of Thira, the largest of the archipelago of volcanic islands that make up Santorini, in the town of Ormos Athinios. There are buses from the port to almost all other areas of the island, so travelling around Santorini is relatively easy. The biggest town on the island, Fira (or Thira), is approximately 3 miles away and a lovely place to stay or visit.
Santorini is a circular archipelago of volcanic islands with a reputation for spectacular beauty and a dynamic nightlife scene. There are also many superb beaches with perfect golden sand and even some unique beaches with black or red sand that are almost exclusive to the island. The beaches are also great for the many beach parties that take place at night, as well as snorkelling with the incredible Greek sea life and around old shipwrecks off of the coasts.
Heraklion Information
Heraklion is the largest city and the capital of Crete. Heraklion offers a wealth of activities and sites to discover: the impressive ruins of Knossos are near the town centre, the venetian fortress of Rocca al Mare in the inner harbor, the Heraklion Archeological Museum, the Historical Museum of Crete, the Water City and Aqua Plus water parks and the Amoudara beach are some of the best attractions in Heraklion.

Confusing departure from Santorini. No electronic board or even clock in the departure lounge to aid our understanding of the next ferry to leave. Thankfully my phone app was able to inform me that our ferry was on its way in, and we were able to see where other ferries were that were overdue. The journey itself was wonderful. Smooth and quick, it was a great way to get over from Santorini to Crete. Onboard food and drink was typically expensive and so we were glad to habVe taken our own supplies.

The ferry trip itself was zipless but dealing with ferry savers was problematic. Their responses to change requests were time limited. With the time difference between London and California That left a very narrow window to respond before the time ran out. I ended up setting an alarm for 1AM so I could get to the email in time
