Toulon - Ajaccio (Corsica Ferries) |
|
The capital of Corsica, Ajaccio is home to a thriving ferry port, the most important on the western side of the island. The port area is fringed by palm trees and lined with lovely colourful houses. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance and at the port itself there are a convenience store, a café and toilet facilities.
Ajaccio is a beautiful Mediterranean town, with its lovely port, full of yachts, leading to an attractive historic centre of narrow streets and charming buildings. The town is home to many designer boutiques, pavement bars and cafés and welcoming, excellent restaurants. Ajaccio is also famous as the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the four-storey house in which he grew up is now a museum, and there are also other excellent museums dedicated to Corsica's most famous son.

24 Jun 2018Gorgeous cabin but hard to find the departure point if you're on foot
-
We went to the wrong company's departure point and had to walk about half a mile down a very busy road from La Joliette metro and no obvious signposts. This was not obvious from the paperwork. We traveled on a Thursday so the boat was very quiet. The cabin we were given on the outside was amazing - a real bed with an enormous window so we could watch the sea until it got dark. This more than compensated for the horrible walk. On the way back there was a shuttle bus to the nearest metro station - presumably because it was the weekend. Did not use the catering except for a drink.
