The Alaska Marine Highway System operates as a division of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for the State of Alaska. The Marine Highway is an integral part of the State highway infrastructure, transporting people and vehicles around the coastal communities on a year-round basis. This system started over 50 years ago and has been continuing growing and incorporating new ports of call since.
