Antikythera is a small lozenge-shaped rocky island Greek island 38 kilometers south-east of Kythira, and is the most remote of the Ionian Islands. It has a land area of about 20 sq km and is most famous for being the location of the discovery of the Antikythera wreck, a shipwreck that was found by some sponge divers off the coast of the island in 1900
Antikythera has a long history and is the perfect place for those independent travellers who are into the charms of Greece's ancient past. Antikythira's residents are mainly descended from Cretan colonists who conquered the island and settled there in 1792.
