BC Ferries is an independently managed, publicly owned company that provides all major passenger and vehicle ferry services for coastal and island communities in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The BC Ferries fleet is made up of all kinds of ships from the 560 feet long Spirit of British Columbia and Spirit of Vancouver Island that can accommodate up to 2,100 passengers and 470 vehicles, to the 111 feet long Nimpkish, that can carry 133 people and 16 vehicles as maximum.

Check-in Information

  • From Port Hardy or Prince Rupert or Skidegate to Prince Rupert, Port Hardy or Skidegate
    Check in time is 2 hours prior to scheduled sailing.
  • Summer only: From the Northern Adventure (Skidegate to Prince Rupert) to Northern Expedition (Prince Rupert to Port Hardy) the cut-off time will be waived for the scheduled Route 10 & 11 connections in Prince Rupert.
  • From Port Hardy or Prince Rupert to a mid-coast destination (i.e. Bella Bella or Klemtu)
    check in time is 2.5 hours before scheduled departure.
  • From the mid coast (i.e. Bella Bella or Klemtu) to Port Hardy or Prince Rupert,
    check in time is 2 hours prior to departure.
  • From the Northern Adventure (RT 11) to Northern Expedition (RT 10) Summer schedule the cut-off time will be waived for the scheduled Route 10 & 11 connections in Prince Rupert.
  • From Port Hardy to Bella Coola
    check in time is 2.5 hours before scheduled departure.
  • From Bella Coola year round for sailings on the MV Nimpkish
    Check in at the BC Ferries dock a minimum of 60 minutes prior to the sailing time.
