Cavo is the closest port to the mainland on the Isle of Elba, just a 15 minute hydrofoil journey away from the mainland port of Piombino. The small town has several restaurants and there are the remains of a Roman villa not far out of the town accessible by a delightful sea-front walk.
The ancients knew Elba as Iva because of its rich iron resources, making it an important port for navigation and trade.
