About Dunkirk

The Dunkirk (also known as Dunkerque) ferry port dates back the 8th century as a simple fishing harbour. Over time, Dunkirk ferry port became famous as a haven for pirates who preyed on shipping in the North Sea. Today, Dunkirk has become a fabulous seaside resort. Dunkirk ferry port offers all the necessary facilities including lounge areas.

Dunkirk is remarkably green for a major international port and industrial centre, which handles bulk cargoes from all over the world, as well as being a increasingly popular ferry port. When coming from the direction of Belgium, Lille or Calais, make sure you get on the A16. Follow the signs for Dunkirk. Take exit 53 (24) and go to the right at the end of the exit. Go straight on at the two roundabouts and follow the road until you arrive at the DFDS Seaways ferry terminal.

    Nicely Surprised
    • Its a while since we used the ferry, the fast lane booking and the Premier lounge made the crossing all the more enjoyable, the staff service was great. The only frustration was on the way back with cyclists being sent to the front of the vehicle queues and not having to wait like mere mortals....Dunkirk was good for our journey, half hour more on the boat in the premier lounge comfy leather chairs looking out to sea, 15 minutes less on the motorway each way. Staff were excellent, especially the guy running the Prem lounge who we had for both legs of the journey

    Paperless crossing
    • Whilst P and O do not stock the Guardian, DFDS had no newspapers at all.
