Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic Islands and, as a result, is probably the quietest too, though with the increase in services to the Spanish mainland, the port in La Savina (on the north of Formentera) is becoming busier. Situated 6km south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea, this island is a hotspot for beach lovers everywhere. Some of the beaches along the coasts of the island are said to be like those of the Caribbean with their clean, golden sands and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling, windsurfing or just plain relaxing.
One of the selling points of this island is the fact that during peak season, it is nowhere near as busy as Ibiza, and with no airport on the island, you'd expect to find it remarkably quiet. One of the things you could do whilst here is to rent a moped and ride to the lovely town of La Savina, with its exclusive marina full of million-dollar yachts coupled with a sense of old-style Spain it is a great day out.
