There are about a dozen dive shops and schools, all eager to show you the stunning underwater scenery. Most of the accommodation and other facilities on the island are on the eastern side, sheltered from the winds and rough seas of the Lombok Strait which sometimes batter the opposite side of the island.

Getting to Gili Trawangan

The are numerous fast boats operated between Bali and Gili islands, Lombok. The cheapest way to reach Gili Trawangan is by using public boat services. The boats usually depart from Bangsal between 8AM and 5PM (but rarely later than that). The sea is calmest in the morning and all transport stops running in the late afternoon before the darkness falls. The appropriate boat capacity allowance is about 30 people, but most of the time the boats are overloaded with goods or passengers. If it seems to you clearly unsafe to board the boat due to either overloading or prevailing weather conditions then it is best not to board it. All services are subject to weather conditions, and the trip across the Lombok Strait can get quite bumpy

Getting around Gili Trawangan

There are no cars on the Gilis, people get around by bicycles, horses and carts and if you're a backpacker everywhere is walkable.
