Minorca is also known as Menorca, meaning "minor island". The Minorca ferry ports are in the scenic town of Ciutadella to the west of the island and the capital town Mahon to the east. Minorca is one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and is a part of Spain.
The island is known for its large collection of megalithic stone monuments - which speak of a very early prehistoric human activity - and for its festivities, which have horses as main protagonists. The festivities of Sant Joan in Ciutadella, above all, are known throughout the world.
