Naze along with the towns of Kasari and Sumiyō created the city of Amami in 2006. The city was founded on July 1, 1946. As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 41,778 and the density of 327.31 persons per km². The total area was 127.64 km². It's located on the Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, on the eastern and northern part of Amami Ōshima.
The Amami City Shopping Area stretches across an area with Nazesuiehiro town. You can enjoy AmamiOshima's local specialty products such as "Oshimatsumugi" and Kokutoshochu" as well as the the island's fresh meats and fish.
It is strongly recommended to go into the town and interact with the locals or simply enjoy shopping. Sometimes you can witnessing some events which are held in the shopping area, especially when cruise ships arrive.
