About Porto Horta
Porto Horta located on Faial island. The island is one of nine islands found in Azores - a group of islands 850 miles west of the Portuguese coastline. This city of Horta has an approximate population of only 7,000 people. The harbour allowed the city to become a stopover for yachts, cruise ships and provide ongoing assistance to transatlantic voyagers. Since 3rd June 1986, the Horta harbour has been a fleet centre for the island ferries. One of them is Atlanticoline. You will often see some fantastic looking yachts docked in the marina. There are also a couple of museum in the city, including one that has an Exhibition of Capelinhos Volcano. Here you will find some extraordinary photographs of the 1957 volcanic eruption in the Azores.
