San Domino Tremiti
The Tremiti Islands archipelago is a small paradise where the nature lovers could find the calmness of the sea, the colourful seabed, the mild climate and uncontaminated nature. The islands offer a beautiful escape away from the crowded beaches and touristy resorts of the Adriatic coast. The archipelago has been part of the Gargano National Park since 1996. The three islands together are less than 5 square kilometres, and a comune of their own, within the province of Foggia and the Puglia region. The largest island, San Domino is named after the eponymous Saint. It is a beautiful island, covered with pine woods and poppies.
Getting to San Domino Tremiti
Using the cars is not allowed on the Tremiti, because the islands are small enough to be explored on foot. You can take a boat from San Domino to other islands or to Termoli, which is only three hours away from Rome. You have got a good choice of fast ferries or hydrofoils in summer in addition to traditional ferries.
Most of hotels and even campgrounds will send a minibus to pick up baggage-laden new arrivals at the port. If you require to get between islands and putter around their coasts, your options are water taxis, organized boat tours that hit all the major coves and water-accessible attractions of the Tremiti, or small motorboat (gommone) rentals.
