Vieste

Vieste is an attractive whitewashed town jutting off the Gargano's easternmost promontory into the Adriatic Sea. It's the Gargano capital and sits above the area's most spectacular beach, a gleaming wide strip backed by sheer white cliffs and overshadowed by the towering rock monolith, Scoglio di Pizzomunno. In old time it was an ordinary fishing town, but now it's a popular Mediterranean beach destination. Swim and sail in deep-blue water (widely renowned for its purity), or explore the town's fine castle and cathedral. The local people welcome tourists and make them feel comfortable and welcome whether in Vieste hotels, restaurants, or historical sights, or activities. For the ultimate Vieste experience, pack a picnic basket and ask a local to direct you to their favourite hidden cove.

Getting to Vieste

If you are travelling by car you will want to take the SS89 road. This will take you all the way to Vieste. If you are travelling from further afield in Italy, then jump on the A14 road to Foggia, where you can turn off onto the SS89.

Travelling by train is doable but is more complicated than driving. The best route to take would be to get a train to Foggia and then another train to Manfredonia. From here you can catch bus to Vieste.<
