Zante is the capital town of the island of Zante, officially known as Zakynthos. One of the largest of the Greek islands, it has much to appeal to the tourist having the essential ingredients of sun, sand and a vibrant nightlife and a wide variety of resorts. It's history stretches back into the haunting poetry of Homer and its present is as vibrant as its lush Mediterranean vegetation. Of particular note are the enchanting Blue Caves, reachable by a boat tour from many towns around the harbour, and the iconic shipwreck that has become a feature of many Greek tourist campaigns.
Zante is also popular thanks to the nightlife of Laganas and due to the beaches, including some that are excellent for water sports. Perhaps the best gems of the Island, however, reserve themselves for the tourist who is willing to become a bit adventurous and stray off the beaten path in order to appreciate the rich beauty that the island has to offer.
