About Amsterdam's Ijmuiden port
There are actually 2 terminals: The "old" ferry terminal called Felison Terminal and the brand new Felison Cruise Terminal. The old ferry terminal is only used by small cruise ships. And larger ships are using the new Felison Cruise Terminal. As it takes about 2 to 3 hours to sail from IJmuiden through the locks to Amsterdam, you will actually have a little bit more time for sightseeing.
The ferry port of Ijmuiden is a few miles outside of Amsterdam itself, only a short journey along the A9, with excellent public transport serving the route. Passenger facilities at the terminal are limited to a convenience store, a gift shop and newsagents, with vending machines offering a range of hot and cold snacks.
Amsterdam is often regarded as one of the most colourful and interesting cities in the world, and this reputation is richly deserved. Where else do you find so many places of interest, famous museums, cozy pubs, fun shops and (flower) markets? Cultural, vibrant, curious and charming with tranquil waterways, tree-lined canals, and crooked gabled houses, Amsterdam is a highlight of European travel. The districts of Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein offer nightlife as relaxed or outrageous and you want, but one of the real beauties of Amsterdam is that there is an aspect of the city that would enchant every traveller.

01 Jul 2019Definitely a ferry and not a cruise.
I would recommend to book through Ferrysavers as they were professional and we saved on the DFDS fare. The ferry itself is old with small cabins which had poor air conditioning. All purchases onboard are taken in Euros, you can pre book your meals through Ferrysavers , which will lower the onboard price considerably.

02 Mar 2019Poor Cabin
We booked a return crossing with a car and was given cabin 513 on the outward journey from Newcastle it was obviously above the Ships engine and the noise and rattle was atrocious. I didn't sleep a wink and made my driving journey the next day very tiring indeed. Returning we were given a cabin on the same lover deck. There seems be given the upper deck cabins to lots of bus passengers. As a frequent ferry user, as a freight driver and leisure driver I wasn't treated that well. We visit Holland frequently because of family.
