The Kirkwall ferry port is located on the Orkney Islands off the north eastern coast of Scotland; Kirkwall is the capital of the island and was constructed around a sheltered bay in the northern area of the island.
Arriving via ferry you would be mistaken to think that Kirkwall is a sprawling industrial location, looking at its port. However, the town itself still retains its narrow winding streets and alleys and its traditional charm. The town offers many amazing and wonderful sights but perhaps the most amazing of all is that of perhaps the finest medieval building in northern Scotland, the Kirkwall Cathedral.

Rough seas. Staff were lovely. Check in for onward journey had a hiccup in that we were only booked on leg 1 not leg 2 but staff quickly rectified it maybe something to check if like us you are returning to a different port
