Ireland ferry guide

Ireland is one of the most visited countries in the world and the good news is that it's just a short hop away by ferry from the UK. Whether it's vibrant Dublin or the stunning coastline and green rolling hills, Ireland really has something for every one whether you're a city lover or you prefer the great outdoors. And at the end of the day what could be better than a Guinness or a spot of Irish whisky.

    Good value
    • Brilliant value for car and one passenger, cheapest by far. Boarding was very slow, we left approx 30 mins after departure time, arrived into Belfast port approx 45 mins late. Disappointed with late departure and subsequent late arrival, other than that happy with service.

    • Great service. Although we we delayed due to the severe weather Stena traveled and gave us vouchers to spend on board

    A trouble-free transit
    • Early February, and only about 100 passengers on board ('But we're expecting 1,200 tomorrow, for the Rugby,' a barman told me). Boarding was swift (customs persons made a brief inspection of the inside of our van). Catering-wise I bought only a hot chocolate, which was quite hot and fairly chocolatey. The sea was eerily calm, and time passed swiftly. In the 'Barista' bar, where I chose to work in order to use mains laptop power, inescapable rolling TV news and tiresome game shows blasted forth at high volume. I imagine the levels are set with higher passenger numbers in mind. But there were other places to sit. The ship's personnel were pleasant and fellow travellers were largely hidden away in cabins or lounges. The usual huddle of reeking smokers polluted the 'fresh' air on deck ... not much one can do about that. All in all, a safe and troublefree transit.
